Sen. Ashley Moody doubling down on her fight against fentanyl
Senator Ashley Moody continues her fight against fentanyl and believes the HALT Fentanyl Act will play a crucial role in this battle. She hopes to see it passed on a federal level.
Moody made her announcement Friday afternoon at the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.
She met with local law enforcement and first responders who frequently confront the extremely lethal and dangerous drugs.

The Senate recently passed legislation that would permanently classify fentanyl-related substances under Schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act, resulting in tougher penalties for those who sell these dangerous drugs.
She addressed her concerns in Palm Beach County, as the area is significantly impacted.

"In this area specifically, it is in the top three for the number of opioid fentanyl deaths in the state, and that's why I'm standing here," Moody said. "I could be standing anywhere in Florida, but I'm standing here because this has historically been an area where we’ve got to focus — not just money — but attention."
She stated that the Senate recently passed the legislation, and it now heads to the House.
You may recall that when Sen. Moody served as Florida's attorney general, she led the charge in the state’s historic opioid litigation.
Moody said in 2023, Florida's fentanyl death rate dropped by 11%, compared to a 2% decrease in the national average during the same period.
