MIAMI, Fla. (CBS12) — An undocumented man has pleaded guilty to illegally entering the United States, taking the identity of a U.S. citizen and voting in two federal elections.
According to the United States Department of Justice Southern District of Florida (DOJ), Carlos Abreu entered the U.S. without an inspection in 2007. When he arrived he assumed the identity of the victim who the DOJ called C.R.V. The DOJ says C.R.V is a U.S. citizen who currently resides in Puerto Rico.

Between 2007 and August 2024, Abreu, 36, assumed C.R.V's identity. The DOJ says in 2007 he obtained a driver's license under the victim's identity and registered to vote in the 2016 and 2022 federal elections. He also confessed to obtaining a concealed carry permit and purchasing four firearms.
The DOJ says he also attempted to obtain U.S. passports for his two minor daughters and himself.
Abreu will be sentenced on June 10, 2025.
