Hamilton native Steve Haining and Brantford model Ciara Antoski have claimed another Guinness World Record for deepwater photography.
Haining said his pictures of Antoski by a shipwreck in the Atlantic Ocean on Dec. 20 set a record for the deepest underwater model photo shoot, beyond the no-decompression limit of scuba diving.
The 15-minute shoot by the Hydro Atlantic, located offshore of a beach south of Boca Raton, Fla., took place at a depth of 163.4 feet, or 49.8 metres, he said in a media release.

Haining and Antoski first set a Guinness record for the deepest underwater model photo shoot in 2021 with a series of pictures by a shipwreck at the bottom of Georgian Bay at a depth of 21 feet, or 6.4 metres.
For their latest feat, Haining and his team used specialized gas mixes, including helium, to offset the dangers of breathing compressed air and reduce the risk of decompression sickness.
“The physical demands were just as high as the artistic ones,” Haining said.
