It was along Card Sound Road in far south Miami-Dade.

6 p.m. report:

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units were observed at the scene working to get the fire under control.

According to authorities, drivers were being asked to avoid the area as all traffic on U.S. 1 on the 18-Mile Stretch, and all Card Sound Road traffic in upper Key Largo was closed.

Traffic slowly began moving again in both directions on U.S. 1 during the 8 p.m. hour while Card Sound Road remained closed.

Officials said they closed both Florida Keys vehicle entry and exit points, with assistance from the Florida Highway Patrol, due to the fire.

A U.S. Forestry spokesperson told Local 10 News the fire started as a grass fire last week.

Dry and windy conditions this week fueled the fierce blaze while the cause remains under investigation.
